Servants Center

Servants Center was organized in 1993 as a result of concern about the drift of churches away from direct relationship based ministry among the poor.  Servants Center works to enhance the reputation of our Lord Jesus Christ through the provision of high quality, relationship based street outreach and ongoing support services to mentally ill poor and homeless people in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In addition to direct service to the homeless, we also provide educational events related to our work throughout Michigan each year.  These events include Sunday preaching, training seminars, and consulting services to help churches develop effective ministries among the poor in their own community – urban, suburban, or rural.

Servants Center is funded through contributions from churches, individuals, corporations, and foundations. Read the stories of those we’ve helped.

Volunteers are needed to assist our professional staff with routine, but important, tasks that help the formerly homeless people we serve. Volunteers typically serve in conjunction with their local church.

If you would like to know more about getting involved with Servants Center, call us at (616) 456-8512. 1

Dégagé Ministries

Dégagé Ministries relies on the faithful support of over 1,200 volunteers annually. Volunteer positions range from weekly to monthly commitments and are open to individuals and groups.

Volunteer Opportunities (but not limited too):
Monday Foodie – Each Monday Degage receives a large donation of food from a local caterer.  A volunteer is needed to creatively turn this food into meals to be served in the dining room.  This would ideally happen between 12:00 and 2:00 on Monday afternoons.  If you enjoy working with food, this may be the role for you!
Morning Kitchen Volunteers – A low-cost breakfast is served in Degage’s dining room each morning.  Volunteers assist by preparing the food, running the cash register, and serving the food.  We currently need a weekly volunteer for Tuesday mornings from 8:30-11:30.
Evening Dining Room Servers – A low-cost meal is served in Degage’s dining room each evening.  Serving on a monthly basis is a great way to become familiar with Degage and the residents of the Heartside neighborhood over time.

Please call Dégagé at (616) 454-1661, or email Bonnie Mulder at bonnie@degageministries for more information on volunteering.
