Clark Retirement Community

Giving back to others. This distinguishing American attribute has resonated at Clark for more than a century. Intuitively, we know that by serving others, we are served as well. We just didn’t know how much until recently. A University of Michigan study has determined that older people who provide practical help or emotional support to others reduce their risk of dying by nearly 60% over their counterparts who do not.

Whether it’s a Clark resident going across the hall to lend a hand or a west Michigan resident coming to Clark on popcorn day, we welcome volunteers in a wide variety of roles. It could be working in the Chatterbox coffee shop or assisting with activities for residents in skilled nursing. Perhaps it’s checking in borrowed books from the library or playing the piano for resident events. If you have the heart, we have the volunteer opportunity.

For specific information about volunteering at Clark, simply email us or call the Clark Volunteer Services Coordinator at 616-452-1568, extension 140 or toll free at 800-770-1117. Click here to download an application to volunteer.

Senior Meals on Wheels

If you would like to volunteer on an occasional basis, (weekly, monthly, one time…), there are many opportunities. Help is always needed at our Senior Pantry, assisting seniors with their shopping, carrying bags to their cars, and re-stocking the shelves. Emergency meals (four non-perishable meals to be eaten in the event we are unable to deliver meals that day) are pre-packaged at our Senior Meals headquarters, and is a good group project (especially for scouts or school kids). When food is collected in food drives for the Senior Meals Program, it needs to be sorted. Volunteering at one of our Senior Centers, serving lunch-style meals is an excellent way to combine your gift of time and make new friends.

If you are interested in joining our team of volunteers, please do! We love the help we get from everyday people like yourselves. The help of volunteers is always welcome and very appreciated.

To arrange a volunteer opportunity, please call Pamela at 459-3111, ext. 16 or email info@seniormealsonwheels.org
